"Aral's kaput, Aral's gone", Sergei moaned while I was photographing him on the Swan, the ship of which he has been the captain. The Aral Sea used to be the world's fourth largest inland sea. Photographing this ecological catastrophe was the start for me of a longer project on 'troubled waters' : water impacted by droughts, floods, bad watermanagment, climate change...
