Throwing off the hump & Assemblage Workshop

Discover one of my favourite throwing techniques and explore new creative possibilities through clay. During this two-day workshop, you will learn how to throw off the hump — a technique that allows you to create multiple forms from a single mass of clay — and transform these pieces through assemblage into unique ceramic objects.

Throwing off the hump is at the heart of my ceramic practice. It is an intuitive and efficient way of working that encourages serial production, experimentation, and creativity. The workshop begins with a live demonstration where I will guide you through my personal approach: centring a large quantity of clay with ease, selecting the right amount of clay, throwing forms, removing them effortlessly, and creating a series of identical or varied pieces.

On the second day, the pieces are trimmed and assembled into original ceramic creations. You might create a tapas dish made of interconnected bowls, a sculptural “tiny garden”, a bathroom set, or develop your own idea.

This workshop is an invitation to move beyond traditional wheel throwing, experiment with composition, and bring your creativity to life. You will leave with new techniques, fresh inspiration, and truly personal creations.
